- Imtech Telecom, a technical services provider that specialises in the design, build and maintenance of next generation networks , has become a member of the Internet Watch Foundation (IWF), joining more than 60 organisations working together to protect UK internet users and combat illegal content online.
The IWF provides the UK ’s only authorised internet hotline, allowing the public to report their inadvertent exposure to child abuse images, incitement to racial hatred and criminally obscene content. Commenting on its new membership, James Morgan, MD of Imtech Telecom, said: “Illegal content is an important issue for everyone involved in the industry. We must all take responsibility for change and unite to campaign against illegal content on the internet. The IWF has done a fantastic job of reducing the amount of illegal content hosted in the UK , but it is vital that service providers take advantage of the new technologies available to provide their customers maximum protection from content hosted around the globe.”
Peter Robbins, CEO, IWF, said: “The IWF is developing partnerships with a range of organisations, from mobile operators to internet and filtering service providers, all keen to play their part in making the internet a safer space. Imtech is an important addition to our membership as we work towards combating online child abuse content hosted around the world.” The IWF receives the public’s reports of potentially illegal content online and where the content fails UK law, operates a ‘notice and take down’ service for the site’s host and passes details to law enforcement agencies at home and abroad.
