IMTECH IN EUROPE - BUILDING GÉANT2’S BACKBONE

mtech Telecom recently facilitated the IP level for GÉANT2, the pan-European research and education network, which enables over 30 million researchers and students to collaborate on a global scale. The network provides the most advanced services and widest geographical reach of any network of its kind in the world, boasting leading-edge standards of reliability and innovation.
Following Imtech’s involvement, IP connectivity speeds of 10Gbps are guaranteed across parts of the GÉANT2 backbone network, an important step on GÉANT2’s path towards completion.
DANTE, the research networking organisation managing the GÉANT2 project, commissioned Imtech to install IP equipment in eight Points of Presence (PoPs) around Europe. At each PoP, Imtech’s skilled engineers implemented Juniper’s high-end multi-service core routers, Optical Distribution Frames and Out of Band facilities. Through Imtech’s work, DANTE has interconnected 15 of Europe’s National Research and Education Networks using the GÉANT2 core optical transmission network.
